St Luke’s Cockatoo-Gembrook has grown as an outward looking church that has established a strong collaborative presence in a local semi-rural or peri-urban community, set in the scenic Dandenong Ranges.

There is a strong commitment to sound biblical teaching, to growing members in faith, and developing a faith-in-action while discipling servant culture.  This has seen, members initiating and becoming involved in a number of church and community- based programs. These include after school activities, mentoring, play groups, food store, and a no interest loans scheme.  Church activities are facilitated by roomy, well appointed mud brick facilities, including an ample hall, small group spaces, office spaces, and excellent kitchen/catering areas.

In this active church we are thankful to have been able to employ a part-time youth worker alongside a child and family ministry. The impacts have confirmed for us the strategic significance of such ministries for growth in faith and discipleship while also facilitating evangelism through love in action.

With the youth ministry position now falling vacant, inspired by what has developed, we are enthusiastically seeking a new suitable person to lead and progress these areas in our parish.

We are calling for expressions of interest from suitable individuals with relevant qualifications, emphasising a capacity to:

  • lead by example

  • organise

  • motivate

  • engage

  • teach appropriately to a range of ages

  • listen

  • maintain confidentiality

and have a record of experience demonstrating effective commitment to

  • working with youth

  • building on appropriate qualifications through ongoing training, peer accountability and supervision

  • The Bible as God’s revelation and ultimate authority in all matters of faith and doctrine

  • the Lordship of Jesus in all of life and work

  • ‘transformative leadership’ that naturally fosters engagement and inspires people to relate well, to enjoy fun, in service to one another and the community.

  • active and sustained involvement in Worship Services

  • setting appropriate boundaries

  • being highly collaborative

  • be a team player

  • encourage turning ideas into action
